A long day for a suspect who Barrie Police allege threw a rock through the front window of a downtown business on Bayfield Street near Ross Street early Wednesday morning.

Police say they were alerted about the incident shortly before five.

"Responding officers learned that the mischief occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. and that an attempt was also made to gain entry to the business by way of the glass front door as it too had sustained damage. Damage to the front window and door is estimated at $2500," police said in a news release on Thursday.

Surveillance video was used to identify the suspect, someone police said they had prior dealings with.

Then around 7 p.m., police responded to a reported theft that happened a few hours previous at a Bell Farm Road apartment. Police said an unknown male allegedly entered the apartment and took a number of items.

Once again, the suspect was captured on security video, and was spotted by officers at a bus stop near the apartment and arrested.

A 22-year-old of no-fixed-address has been charged with:

  • unlawfully in a dwelling
  • theft under $5000
  • mischief over $5000

He was released on an undertaking to appear in court next month.
