Drinks were not on the house, but a break and enter suspect helped himself and allegedly made off with over $1,500 in alcohol from a restaurant on Fairview Road.

Barrie police say cleaning staff arrived around 8 a.m. Monday morning and found a broken window.

"From the police investigation that followed, responding officers have determined that between  2:45 a.m. and 3:06 a.m., an unknown male threw an umbrella base through a small patio window which allowed him to access the premises. Once inside, he selected a quantity of assorted alcoholic beverages from behind the bar and canned beverages from refrigerators and loaded them up into containers. Prior to leaving, a number of bottles of red wine were thrown around the restaurant. These bottles shattered and created a large mess," according to a police news release on Wednesday.
