Provincial police say witnesses have told them "a motorcycle was seen travelling at high rates of speed" before crashing.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmdit on Twitter said the deadly crash happened shortly after 9 p.m. on Thursday on Highway 400 northbound between Highway 88 and Highway 89.

According to witnesses, Schmidt says the rider lost control and hit the wall before "sliding a considerable distance before coming to rest."

The rider was pronounced dead at the scene.
