A motorcyclist was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre with serious injuries following a 3-vehicle collision in Barrie.
Police say the collision occurred just before 8:30 Wednesday night on Ferndale Drive North between Edgehill Drive and Benson Drive.
"Investigators have determined that a northbound motorcycle, while travelling on Ferndale Drive North, clipped the left rear corner of a northbound SUV with three occupants. This caused the motorcycle to veer into the southbound lanes of Ferndale Drive North, where it collided with a southbound SUV that had four occupants," police said in a news release.
The operator of the motorcycle was ejected from his bike, police added. The motorcycle caught fire after hitting the SUV, and when it came to a stop on the west side of North Ferndale Drive, the grass caught fire, which was subsequently extinguished by firefighters.
The SUV that was hit by the motorcycle lost control and struck a hydro pole.
Nobody in the SUVs was injured.
No charges have been laid, and the investigation is ongoing. Police are asking anyone who may have dash camera footage or witnessed this collision to contact Detective Constable Hueson of the Barrie Police Traffic Unit by email at rhueson@barriepolice.ca.
