
Two men from Maple, ages 20 and 30, face multiple firearm charges after South Simcoe Police pulled over a vehicle for speeding in Bradford West Gwillimbury.
On Sept. 26, around 10 p.m., police say a vehicle was recorded travelling 150 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.
A traffic stop was initiated, and the officer spoke with the driver and a front-seat passenger. The officer detected a strong odour of cannabis. With the assistance of other officers, the vehicle was searched, and police allege a handgun and a loaded magazine in a satchel were seized.

Both suspects have been charged with the following:
- unauthorized possession of a firearm
- possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
- possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- carrying a concealed weapon
- occupant of a motor vehicle, knowing there was a firearm
- knowledge of an unauthorized possession of a firearm
In addition to the criminal charges, the driver of the vehicle was also charged with stunt driving and driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available.
The driver had his licence suspended for 30 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
