A Newmarket man is facing a second-degree murder charge after a woman suffered a serious head injury.
York Regional Police were called to a home on Davis Drive in Newmarket on August 6, 2019, arriving to find a woman who was unresponsive but was showing no signs of injury. She was rushed to hospital where officials determined she had a life-threatening brain injury caused by blunt force trauma to her head.
The 45-year-old woman, later identified as Ingrid Scholtes of Newmarket, died two days later.
The investigation into her death led to the arrest of a man police say was the victim’s fiancé. A 47-year-old Newmarket man was arrested and charged in connection to her death on Wednesday.
