Police say a suspect has been charged after a noxious substance was released at a Barrie high school.
First responders were called to Innisdale Secondary School (ISS), located at Bayview Drive and Little Avenue, around 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The school was placed in a hold and secure.
Deputy Fire Chief Carrie Clark says the information they have is it was likely pepper spray that had been sprayed in the school, with police adding the substance was discharged in the hallway.
Police say three students were treated at the scene.
Police communications coordinator Peter Leon says a 15-year-old boy has been charged with the following offences:
- assault with a weapon
- weapons dangerous
- administer a noxious substance
Leon said the suspect is a student but under the Youth Criminal Justice Act was unable to give anymore specifics than that.
He added that the student was arrested away from the school.
The Simcoe County District School Board said on its Facebook page that a portion of ISS will remain closed at this time.
