Off-duty OPP, RCMP officers quickly cuff shoplifting suspects in Midland

Police also lay indecent act charges in unrelated incident

A pair of off-duty Midland-based police officers helped lay cuffs on two shoplifting suspects.

The two officers were in the area of County Road 93 in Midland around 2:30 p.m. December 1 when they came across a retail store staff member chasing two suspects accused of fleeing the store.

The officers, one with the OPP, the other with the RCMP, followed the suspects to a nearby fast-food restaurant and made an arrest. A uniformed officer was called and took the suspect into custody.

Two men, aged 30 and 40, both from Midland, were charged, and police say a quantity of store products were seized.

Meanwhile, police in Midland say a local man has been arrested and charged with mischief, committing an indecent act, and trespassing following reports of an incident at a home on Sixth Street.

Police say the charges stem from an incident in the overnight hours of November 28, with an arrest on December 1.
