OPP officer cleared by SIU in fatal Oro-Medonte crash

Toronto woman killed in collision north of Orillia

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says an OPP officer has been cleared of wrongdoing in connection to a fatal crash in Oro-Medonte earlier this year.

On April 19, the SIU says an officer pursued a man, whom it was believed committed a break and enter in the Huntsville area, on Sideroad 15/16 and stole a police cruiser.

They say the suspect travelled at a high rate of speed before hitting the ditch.

He died in hospital from injuries suffered in the crash.

Officials say they found no reasonable grounds to believe that an OPP officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the death of the 41-year-old man.
