Officials break ground on new Elmvale Food Bank facility

New facility expected to be completed in the Fall

Everyone had a turn with the shovel Tuesday as ground was broken for a new Elmvale and District Food Bank facility.

Members of the Food Bank board of directors, along with volunteers, Township of Springwater council members, and the project’s contractor took turns, individually, to respect physical distancing guidelines, to break ground on the new venture.

The new facility is being built on Yonge St. near William St. in Elmvale, and is expected to help address food storage, privacy, and accessibility concerns the existing Elmvale Community Hall location does not.

“We are thrilled to soon have a facility of our own which will permit us to serve the community effectively with storage rooms, interview rooms and comfortable waiting areas for citizens using the food bank,” says Jan Drinkill, Chair of the Elmvale & District Food Bank. “The location will provide ample parking, privacy, convenience for residents of the village of Elmvale and a nearby bus stop for those travelling from outlying communities.”

Construction on the new facility is expected to be completed in early Fall.
