Sexual assault cases are a serious problem here with Ontario doctors and emergency departments treating 52,780 cases between during a 15 year period.
A new study counted sexual assault cases treated by a doctor or in an emergency room between 2002 and 2016. Those findings were released Thursday in the American Journal of Public Health. The study was conducted by researchers at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and ICES.
The highest rates were found among females aged 15 to 19 years old, with around 85% of all cases involving a female victim. For males, the study found that highest frequency of assault was for boys 4 years old or younger.
