Ontario’s teachers at no higher risk of contracting COVID-19 than health care workers, grocery clerks – MOH

Back-to-school plan "is safe"

Ontario’s top doc says teachers will not be at risk of catching COVID-19 as long as they, and students, maintain infection control protocols.

Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. David Williams, said Thursday the risk is no higher than it is for health care workers and grocery store clerks.

Dr. Williams reiterated that if he did not think it was safe to return to school, he would not be recommending it, noting hundreds of doctors and other medical experts have weighed in on the province’s back-to-school plan and determined it was safe.

He also said he would not hesitate to recommend his grandchildren go back to school.
