The Open Air Dunlop season comes to a close this Saturday, with a spooktacular Halloween-themed day in Downtown Barrie!

There’s a full day of fun planned, including a free concert at 2 p.m. with Grate Northern, who will be playing free-flowing jams in the spirit of the Grateful Dead. 

8:00 a.m. Free Yoga Class with True You Studio, meet in Meridian Place.

9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Learn how to hand marble your own paper and use printmaking to create a ghostly print on marbled paper with Art with Purpose. Find Jenn setup across from Homestead Bakery. 

9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Visit the Barrie Farmers Market inside City Hall and celebrate the harvest season. Enter their pumpkin carving contest! Bring your finished carving to the market by 10:30 a.m. for judging. 

9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Paint a pumpkin on a wooden panel with Art by Alexandra. Embellish it with glitter and gems. Find her setup in Meridian Place. 

10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Try your hand at life drawing with a free drop-by activity with the Drawing House. They’ll have a live model in Meridian Place. 

10:00 a.m. The Ephemeral Street Art Jam. Stop by the pink building to catch artists in action. Led by Clandestinos Art, beginners, mid-career and professional artists will be coming together to create, using downtown’s landmark building as a canvas.

11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Visit Barrie Unity Fest on Dunlop West. Enjoy delicious food and handcrafted items at this plant-based market. 

11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Paint and create your own custom merch by the Fab Tray Alleyway, near P_ZZA with Dee Ritz and Godone of Creative Streetwear Creations. Play with stencils, stamps, patches, markers and paint.

12:00 p.m. Join the Mexican House in Meridian Place for sugar skull decorating, ahead of Dia Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) They’ll be there until 3 p.m. or when supplies run out. Arrive early, it was a popular activity last year.

1:00 p.m. Join the Downtown Barrie Halloween Costume Contest! Categories this year are Best Pet, Best Individual, and Best Duo or Group. Meet at the Meridian Place Stage.

1:30 p.m. Catch a preview performance by Ofrenda: Dia Los Muertos dancers. Enjoy a beautiful celebration of Mexican folklore and learn more about the event happening at the MacLaren Art Centre on November 4th.

2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Free Concert in Meridian Place with Grate Northern! Hailing from Orillia, ON, Grate Northern is a train that thunders down the track, leaving a series of smoking craters in their wake. Their musical mandate is to harness the energy of their collective experience and create an adventure in the spirit of the Grateful Dead.

4:30 p.m. Join Mary Harris of Fire & Mist Stories for a Spooky Stroll through Downtown Barrie. She'll be recounting stories from the past of the strange and spooky variety. You may never look at downtown's old buildings in the same way. There will be some mature themes which may be scary to children, so parental guidance is recommended. Meet at the Barrie Public Library parking lot on Worsley Street

7:00 p.m. Monster Mash with the Wheeled Brew Bottle Shop at their Halloween Party. Get a free candy bar and enter their costume contest for a ghoulishly good time. Categories are Best Costume, Most Creative, and Best Partner Costume.
