A 50-year-old Alliston man who told provincial police he crashed his vehicle into a traffic light pole while trying to avoid two deer that suddenly crossed the road has been charged with impaired driving.
Police say a man on his way to Alliston called 911 early Sunday to report the collision at Highway 89 and County Road 50.
He was not injured, but he was unsure if he needed a tow truck, according to police.
When officers arrived at the scene, the man explained that he had swerved to avoid deer that crossed the road, causing him to hit the pole.
When questioned by police if he had consumed alcohol or drugs, he allegedly admitted to consuming something a few hours earlier.
Police said the man failed a roadside screening test and was charged with impaired driving.
His vehicle was impounded for seven days, and his driver's licence was suspended for 90 days.
