OPP say a cabbie was threatened with an edged weapon in Midland

A 57-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged after provincial police received a 911 call from someone on Saturday evening who reported a person was threatening a cab driver in the Beer Store parking lot on County Road 93 in Midland.

As officers responded to the scene, the OPP Communication Centre received a report of a suspicious man in the area of the Mountainview Mall.

Police entered a wooded area behind the mall where a tent was set up, and a suspect was arrested.

He was also wanted on an outstanding warrant.

The suspect was charged with:

  • Assault with A Weapon
  • Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm

The accused was held for a bail hearing and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.
