Ontario Provincial Police charged the driver of a transport truck after an officer travelling on Highway 89 Wednesday afternoon noticed a large block of snow and ice on the trailer roof.

The driver was charged with having an insecure load on a commercial motor vehicle.

"Ice and snow falling from vehicles can create serious hazards for other road users," provincial police posted on social media.

Police urged the public to take the time to properly clear their vehicle before hitting the road, and noted "safety starts before the wheels move."
