One person is dead, a second individual is in a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious injuries in what Ontario Provincial Police in Midland say is a homicide investigation.

Around 1 p.m. on Monday, police responded to a call at a residence on Seventh Street. Upon arrival, officers found one person deceased, while a second person in the home was transported to hospital.

A postmortem examination has been scheduled at the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto.

"While police believe this to be an isolated incident, residents are reminded to be aware of their surroundings and remain vigilant of their personal safety at all times," police said in a news release on Tuesday evening.

Investigators did not identify the victims or whether they are looking for any suspects.
