OPP investigating deadly wrong-way collision on Highway 11 north of Orillia

One person was killed in a wrong-way two-vehicle collision on Highway 11 north of Orillia.

Ontario Provincial Police say they responded around 4 a.m. Saturday to reports of a wrong-way driver involved in a collision involving a pickup truck and an SUV on Highway 11 northbound, near South Sparrow Lake Road/Goldstein Road, in Severn Township.

One driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the identity of the deceased is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.

Highway 11 was closed in both directions for several hours while police investigated the crash, but the road has since reopened.
