OPP say the lone occupant of the vehicle died in hospital

Southern Georgian Bay OPP say a 79-year-old from Hamilton died after a vehicle drove into the waters of Georgian Bay.

On Wednesday just after 3:30 p.m., OPP responded to a marina in the village of Honey Harbour.

"Officers learned that a vehicle had driven into the water and a quick effort was made by citizens in the area as well as an officer who entered the water in a rescue attempt," police wrote in a release.

"A lone occupant was removed from the vehicle and life-saving measures were performed."

The victim was transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced deceased.

OPP are investigating the incident.
