When they arrived, police located two people in distress as they'd both been sprayed with bear spray. One of them also had a visible head injury.
Both were taken to Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries and later released.
According to early reports, a group of approximately seven individuals approached the victims, with one suspect partially concealing their face using a t-shirt. Before officers arrived, the group fled the scene on foot through the parking lot toward Hurontario Street.
Collingwood and the Blue Mountains OPP say they conducted a thorough search of the area and investigated multiple leads, including conducting traffic stops involving people nearby.
The case had since been turned over to the Collingwood OPP Crime Unit for further investigation.
The suspect is facing charges of robbery with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, failure to comply with an undertaking, fail to attend for fingerprinting, two counts of administering a noxious thing and seven counts of assault.
He was held for a bail hearing and later released with a future court date.
