OPP lay more than 8,000 charges over holiday weekend

Despite advance warning police would be out in force on Ontario roads last weekend more than 5,000 drivers were tagged by the OPP for speeding.

Another 263 were caught distracted driving.

There were seven fatalities on OPP-patrolled roads. Two others, including a three-year-old child, died in off-road incidents

The OPP reminds Ontario residents and visitors to take responsibility for their own safety and make better decisions regarding their use of hand-held devices and other activities to help reduce the number of deaths and injuries on our roads, waterways and trails.
