Provincial police are advising of a temporary no-fly zone over and around the Nottawasaga Resort & Conference Centre during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The temporary restriction will be in place from June 12 to July 7 for the Alliston-based complex during which time the Panamanian men's national soccer team will be based there for training during the tournament.
During this time, the OPP says the unauthorized operation of drones or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is strictly prohibited.
"Operating a drone in restricted airspace may result in enforcement action, including fines and other penalties," the OPP stated in a news release.
Panama will play its first two matches of the group stage on Jun. 17 and Jun. 23 in Toronto against Ghana and Croatia, respectively. Then, its third match of Group L will be played on Jun. 27 against England in East Rutherford, N.J.
If Panama, finishes as the runner up in its group, it will also play its round of 16 match in Toronto on July 2.
Aside from the Canadian men, who will be based in Vancouver during the tournament, Panama is the only team of the remaining 47 to choose a Canadian location for its base camp.
Counter-drone measures are commonplace around venues with major events like sports matches or concerts and are heightened in Canada when capacity is especially high like for the Grey Cup and World Series.
