OPP seek possible witness in Collingwood-area cold case dating back nearly 40 years

Police said Steve Montgomery may have resided in the Meaford/Thornbury area

An ongoing criminal investigation regarding incidents that date back from 1982 and 1983 has prompted detectives from the Collingwood and Blue Mountains OPP to seek the public’s assistance in identifying a possible witness.

Police hope to speak with Steve Montgomery, who is estimated to be between 70 and 80 years old. Investigators believe in the early 1980s, Montgomery may have lived in the area of Thornbury/Meaford. During this time, Montgomery worked at Hincks Farm as a carpenter/woodworker. He also constructed custom interiors for sailboats and may have sold custom wood pieces in the area.

The photo of Montgomery is from 1983 and an aged sketch of what Montgomery may look like today.

Anyone who has information as to Mr. Montgomery’s current whereabouts is asked to contact Collingwood/The Blue Mountains OPP at (705) 445-4321 or 1-888-310-1122. You can also call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit your information online at www.p3tips.com.
