Officials say improperly discarded smoking materials caused blaze in Orillia

Orillia Fire officials say the cause of a fire on an apartment balcony on Sunday was improperly discarded smoking materials.

Fire Chief Michael Clark told Barrie 360 they were called to 95 Barrie Road around 2:00 p.m.

He says the flames were quickly extinguished and there were no injuries.

Damage is pegged at $170,000.

Clark says the fire was discovered by an occupant of the apartment above.
