Ian Gordon has been named Orillia’s 2025 Citizen of the Year, receiving the honour during a special presentation at Monday's Council meeting.

Mayor Don McIsaac praised Gordon’s longtime community commitment, saying, “Ian’s dedication to community safety, his support for local health care, and his unwavering commitment to helping others have had a profound impact on Orillia. His leadership and quiet generosity reflect the very best of our community.”

A Selfless Role Model and Community Builder

Gordon’s nominators described him as selfless, dependable, and a remarkable role model. His extensive impact includes major contributions to local health care through Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH). He has served as Safety Captain for the Soldiers’ Ride and sits on the OSMH Board, where he has coordinated safety planning, volunteer teams, and community partnerships.

His behind‑the‑scenes leadership has helped ensure the success of several major fundraising events that benefit residents across Orillia.

Gordon has also volunteered with a wide range of community organizations, including:

  • Orillia Scottish Festival
  • Royal Canadian Legion Branch 34
  • Orillia Terriers
  • Various local and regional charitable initiatives

According to one nominator, “Ian is the person who steps forward whenever help is needed. His integrity, kindness, and commitment strengthen our community every single day.”

Two Finalists Also Recognized

Alongside Gordon, two additional nominees were honoured as exceptional finalists for the 2025 award.

Stacie Swinton

Swinton was acknowledged for her commitment to supporting vulnerable and underprivileged community members through both her professional work and volunteerism. As Logistics Chair for the 2026 Orillia Winter Games, she devoted more than 150 hours to planning and coordination, helping create a smooth and positive experience for visiting athletes.

Her nominators praised her compassion, reliability, and community‑focused leadership.

Frank Corker

Corker was recognized for his leadership in establishing the Orillia Pickleball Club and advocating for improved recreational facilities in the city. His efforts have helped cultivate a thriving, engaged pickleball community, and his collaboration with City staff has advanced planning for new outdoor courts.

His energy, dedication, and vision have expanded recreation opportunities for residents of all ages.
