The City of Orillia is preparing to transform the outdoor recreation space, which surrounds the Orillia Recreation Centre.

Work is expected to begin in the coming weeks on two major additions to Foundary Park, a new skatepark and 10 pickleball courts.

“These projects are true examples of community collaboration and local pride coming together in a meaningful way,” said Mayor Don McIsaac in a news release. “These exciting enhancements started with residents who care about having quality places to gather, play, and stay active. It’s great to see Foundry Park take shape in a way that reflects that effort and brings something lasting to Orillia for people of all ages.”

The skatepark will be the first phase of construction, with groundbreaking expected in early May. The 11,000-square-foot facility will be designed for skateboarders of all skill levels and has received more than $100,000 in fundraising support from the local skateboarding community.

Pickleball courts are also part of the plan, supported by the local pickleball community, which has raised about $30,000 so far.

Construction on both projects is expected to continue through the summer, with the new amenities anticipated to be ready by fall 2026.

During construction, parts of the site will be closed to the public, and residents are being asked to follow all posted signage and use caution around work zones.
