Orillia man charged with impaired after fail-to-remain crash

An Orillia man has been charged with impaired offences following a fail-to-remain collision this morning.

Orillia OPP responded to a call about a vehicle striking a light post in the Memorial Avenue and Dunedin Street area.

"Police were advised the vehicle had sustained extensive damage and did not remain at the scene,"

Officers said in a release.

"With assistance from the community, and police investigation, police were able to locate the involved vehicle. Upon speaking with the driver, officers noted numerous signs of being impaired."

A 72-year-old was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired- alcohol, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Fail to remain contrary to section 200(1)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

He is scheduled for Orillia court in August.

His driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for seven days.
