Two Orillia men face weapons charges

Provincial police booked two individuals on weapons charges following a reported attempt to enter a vehicle in Orillia.

On Tuesday, June 8, shortly before 12:30 a.m., a member of the public noticed someone around their vehicle. 

Police say they were able to locate a suspect matching the description walking with two other individuals - the suspect was arrested.

According to OPP, during a search, a prohibited knife was found in the suspect's possession. 

Officers say a second suspect present was wanted by police on an outstanding warrant, and was also arrested. 

OPP say the second suspect became combative while officers conducted their search. Police report the suspect attempted to brandish a large knife from his waistband, but officers were able to subdue him without further incident.

A 33-year-old Orilla man is facing multiple charges including carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes, assault on a peace officer with a weapon, and failing to comply with a probation order.

The accused was held for a bail hearing in Barrie court on Monday.

While a 41-year-old Orillia man is up on weapons charges including unauthorized possession, and possession for dangerous purposes.

He was released on an undertaking and will appear in Orillia court in mid-July.
