Orillia OPP: Barrie man among two facing impaired driving charges

Orillia OPP arrested and charged two drivers with impaired operation, including a Barrie man who they say blew two times the legal limit.

On Friday, around 2 p.m., police were notified by the public of a possible impaired driver. Officers located the vehicle on Line 9 South in Oro-Medonte.

According to OPP, a sample of the driver's breath read two and a half times the legal limit.

A 57-year-old from Orillia faces the following charges:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol 80 plus
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Obstruct Peace Officer

The accused is scheduled to appear in Orillia court on July 18.

Their driver's licence was suspended for 90 days, and vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Then on Saturday shortly before 10 a.m., police were notified again by the public of another possible impaired driver.

The vehicle was located at Line 15 North and Old Barrie Road on the border of Orillia and Oro-Medonte.

OPP say the driver's breath read two times the legal limit.

A 22-year-old Barrie man has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol 80 plus

He is scheduled for court on July 18.

His driver's licence was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
