Orillia OPP say heading out on waterway ice is risky business

Daytime highs for the first few days of March will be above freezing

A heads up to anyone riding a snowmobile or ice fishing on area waterways.

Don’t be lulled into a false sense of security because the ice appears to be safe.

As police say, no ice is safe ice.

Orillia OPP tweeted pictures of the canal entering Lagoon City in Brechin.

Police were called after a snow machine went through the ice.

They say the slush is thick and treacherous.

Ice conditions can change by the hour.

The temperature will also be a factor, climbing above freezing on Sunday with daytime highs above zero for the first few days of March, only dipping into the minus figures at night.
