
Police found quite a cast of characters behind the wheel thanks to traffic stops, as well as tips from concerned members of the public.
On March 18, just after 8 p.m., an officer on general patrol on Barrie Road near West Street in Orillia spotted a motorist that allegedly committed an offence under the Highway Traffic Act. The vehicle was pulled over, and during the chat with the motorist, police say the officer learned the person was a prohibited driver for a criminal code conviction.
A 36-year-old from Orillia was charged with operation while prohibited, driving without proper headlights, and operating a vehicle without insurance.

The next day, around 3 a.m., the law caught up to a motorist who was a suspended driver in Ontario since 2006.
OPP say an officer on patrol on Highway 12 near West Street received an ALPR alert for a Highway Traffic Act offence for a vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted, and that's when police learned the 45-year-old behind the wheel from British Columbia should not have been in that situation.
As a result, the motorist was charged with driving while under suspension and driving a vehicle with not valid permit.
On the same day, around 2:45 p.m. an officer conducting speed enforcement on Highway 11 in Oro-Medonte Township clocked a vehicle travelling 141 km/hr in a posted 90 km/hr zone.
A 45-year-old North Bay resident was charged with speeding and stunt driving.
Their vehicle was impounded for 14 days, and their licence was suspended for 30 days.
Just over three hours later, OPP received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the area of University Avenue and Old Barrie Road in Orillia. Once the vehicle was located, officers entered into an impaired driving investigation. Police said the driver failed a roadside screening device and was arrested and taken to the Orillia detachment for further testing.
A 71-year-old Oro-Medonte man was charged with impaired driving.
His driver's licence was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
