The City of Orillia has opened a Relief Centre at the Orillia Recreation Centre (255 West St. S.) to support residents affected by extended power outages resulting from the ice storm.
“We recognize the challenges many residents are facing due to extended power outages,” said Coun. Tim Lauer. “Please only attend if absolutely necessary. This is a very serious situation with hazardous road conditions, downed trees and hydro lines, and damage to public and private infrastructure. The Relief Centre is intended to provide temporary comfort and support for those in need.”

The Relief Centre is now open and will provide a safe, comfortable space for residents to:
- Warm up
- Charge electronic devices. Residents with essential medical devices will be given priority access to charging stations. Please notify staff upon arrival if this applies to you.
- Access light refreshments
The Relief Centre will be open until 10 p.m. tonight (March 30, 2025). Operating hours will be assessed based on community need and power restoration progress. Updates will be provided on the City’s social media channels.
Residents will be required to sign in to the relief centre to ensure safety of all occupants.
Please note this is not an overnight shelter, and pets are not permitted. Residents are encouraged to bring charging cords, reusable water bottles, and any essential items they may require during their visit.
Conditions are evolving rapidly, and service statuses may change with little notice. The City will continue to monitor storm impacts and provide updates on facility status, road conditions, and municipal services through orillia.ca and the City’s social media channels.
