In just over one hour on Wednesday evening, Barrie police responded to three separate incidents where pedestrians were struck by vehicles.
At around 6:20 p.m., police say a teenage pedestrian was hit by a pick up truck making a left turn at the intersection of Mapleview Drive West and Barrieview Drive.
"The female pedestrian was attempting to cross Mapleview Drive West from the northside to the southside of the road when she was struck. She was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation remains ongoing," police stated in a news release on Thursday.
In the second incident, which happened on Bayfield Street north of Livingstone Street, police say the driver fled the scene. According to police, at around 6:30 p.m., a 15-year-old pedestrian was crossing Bayfield Street when he was struck by a northbound Dodge Ram pickup truck that failed to remain. Officers were alerted about the incident 30 minutes later. The teen was transported to hospital for treatment of minor abrasions and lower body injuries. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash camera video is asked to contact Constable Thorne at jthorne@barriepolice.ca.
Police aren't saying much about the third incident which occurred in the northwest part of the city shortly after 7:30 p.m. and involved a motor vehicle and a person who was injured.
"It is not an incident that we, as a police service, are able to share any details on," according to a police news release. "The incident was isolated, has been thoroughly investigated and there is no risk to public safety."
Barrie police are reminding motorists to always make sure that intersections and crossing areas are clear of pedestrians when completing turns and pedestrians are reminded to always use crosswalks, crossovers and signalized intersections when crossing the street.
