Sex assault charges laid on employee of Penetanguishene long-term care facility

Provincial police have laid sex assault charges on an employee of a long-term care facility in Penetanguishene and say there could be more victims.

An investigation began on March 29 after a victim reported a sexual assault at the facility.

"The suspect was an employee," Southern Georgian Bay OPP wrote in a release. "The complaint does not involve a resident of the facility." 

Police arrested a 28-year-old from Midland on Tuesday and charged them with:

  • Sexual Assault ( 2 counts )

The accused was released and is scheduled for court in Midland on May 15.

"The involved health care facilities have been notified of the allegations to take appropriate actions," officers added. "OPP are concerned there may be more victims in relation to this investigation, the accused was also an employee of a health care facility in Midland.

"There is no statute of limitations on sexual offences and a report can be made to police at any time, regardless of how much time has passed. If you do not wish to make a report to police or need more time and support to make that decision, there are community partners available to help.
