Pet owner charged after dog mauled in Gravenhurst

By-law officials issue order requiring offending dog to wear a muzzle

A dog attack on another dog in Gravenhurst resulted in the death of the animal.

Ontario Provincial Police say they responded to a complaint from a dog owner that their pet had been mauled and severely injured by another dog Sunday evening. The attack happened earlier in the day on Phillip Street.

The animal was rushed to a veterinary hospital where the dog died of her injuries.

Police have charged a 47-year-old Gravenhurst woman with several offences as the owner for failing to prevent the dog from attacking a person or domestic animal, and failing to exercise reasonable precautions to prevent a dog from behaving in a manner that poses a menace to the safety of people or domestic animals. The woman was also issued a charge under a town by-law for allowing her dog to run at large.

By-law officials issued an order that the dog be required to wear a muzzle.
