A smash-up derby on Country Lane in Barrie.

Police were contacted by paramedics shortly after seven on Thursday evening about a vehicle that had struck a home.

"Upon arrival at the scene, responding officers located a significant area of debris from two parked cars that had been struck and observed that the involved pickup truck had veered across the road after striking the cars, drove across the lawn of a Country Lane home and struck the garage wall of the neighbouring home," police said in a news release on Friday.

Police located the 21-year-old man from Barrie in the back of an ambulance.

He was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

At the hospital, police said they conducted breath tests on the driver and determined he was impaired.

The driver has been charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Operation While Impaired Over 80
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Possess More Than One Licence
  • Drive Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available
  • Young Driver B.A.C. above zero.

The accused was released from custody once the police investigation was complete, and he is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on September 13, 2023.
