A Barrie resident took precautions to try and prevent the theft of their pickup truck and it was still stolen.
Police say they attended a residence on Fox Run around 6:20 Thursday morning when the homeowner awoke to find his blue, 2022 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck had been stolen overnight.
Investigators have learned the truck was last seen in the driveway of the home around 9:30 Wednesday evening after the owner secured it with a steering wheel locking device.
"When he came out in the morning, the truck was gone, and the steering wheel locking device was found discarded on the driveway after it had been cut in half," police stated in a news release on Friday.
A canvass of homes in the neighbourhood was conducted, but there was no video surveillance located in the immediate area of the theft.
In the news release, police reminded the public that motor vehicle thefts are continuing to take place.
"Although attempts were made to prevent this theft from happening, opportunistic thieves are finding ways to defeat your efforts," police added. "If there is the availability of second motor vehicle in your family, you are encouraged to use it as a blocker to prevent a future theft; by parking it as close as possible to a potentially sought after motor vehicle, your efforts may just help to keep your property in your hands and not in the hands of those who has chosen to participate in conducting criminal activity in our community."
