Pilot killed in Lake Simcoe plane crash

Transport Canada is investigating

The pilot and lone occupant of an ultralight plane was killed Monday afternoon when the aircraft crashed on Lake Simcoe.

Orillia OPP told Barrie 360 the man’s name has not been released.

The plane struck the ice about a kilometre offshore near Lagoon City, in the area of Brechin Point.

Ramara firefighters used an airboat to reach the crash scene.

They were back at the site on Tuesday along with the OPP and officials from Transport Canada.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
