After giving us a teaser a few months ago, Pixar has just dropped the first full trailer for their new prequel, Lightyear.
Lightyear is a sci-fi action-adventure film that will tell the origin story of Buzz Lightyear. Following the character, as he takes his journey from a young pilot to the Space Command Ranger we all fell in love with in 1995 (well a smaller, Tim Allen-ier version).
While we already know Chris Evens will be lending his voice to the titular character, the rest of the cast has been kept somewhat under wraps. What we do know is that stars like Keke Palmer, who has done voice work in the past such as Robot Chicken and Big Mouth, and actor/director Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit) will also be lending their vocal talents to the film.
As for talent behind the camera, this will be Angus MacLane's first time directing a feature on his own (he co-directed Finding Dory). However, MacLane is not exactly a new face at Pixar, having worked at the company as an animator all the back to A bug's Life in 1998. His animation work at the studio is stacked with old and new classics including Monsters Inc, The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille, Wall E, Up, and more.
Another name of note from the project is Composer Michael Giacchino, who is a long-time partner of Pixar as well. Along with composing music for Pixar films like Up, Ratatouille, and more, he was also the composer for Spider-Man: No Way Home and the upcoming caped crusader reboot, The Batman.

Lightyear is set to release on June 17 and there has been no word on whether this will have an exclusive theatrical run or be a same-day streaming release on Disney Plus.
