Play It Again Sports is returning to Barrie, with doors set to open on April 15.
The sports store opens with a different business model than most big box stores. Instead of only new items, Play It Again Sports offers a variety of both new and used. They offer an option for customers to trade in their used items for cash or store credit.
The owner and operator of Barrie’s Play It Again Sports Igor Mousasticoshvily Jr., says the unique business model of the store chain attracted him to the opportunity.
Play It Again Sports also offers a sustainable option when shopping for sporting goods. As many of the items are second-hand, instead of hurting the environment in landfills, the items have a second life at an affordable price.
With spring underway and spring cleaning coming up, Play It Again Sports offers a way for people to turn their unwanted items into cash or store credit.
“Everybody’s going to be cleaning their garages, bring your sports equipment that’s sitting there in the garage getting dusty. Bring them to my store, get paid cash on the spot, or get store credit and buy anything you want in the store,” Mousasticoshvily Jr. said.

Mousasticoshvily Jr. isn’t new to Play It Again Sports. He is also the owner and operator of the Aurora location which sells a lot of hockey equipment, especially skates.
He sees a similar opportunity in Barrie.
"We're always looking for markets that are focused on sports, and Barrie has a huge hockey base,” Mousasticoshvily Jr. said. “They have their OHL team … The place is always packed. So there's a huge hockey culture and baseball culture and soccer is also coming in strong.”
When Play It Again Sports opens its doors, Mousasticoshvily Jr. believes the store will fit right in and help working families access more affordable sporting goods.
The store is located at 71 Commerce Park Drive in the south end of Barrie.
