The "Play the Parks" music series continues to give a soundtrack to Barrie's downtown.
For the last few weeks, musicians have set up equipment along Centennial Park and Heritage Park for a free concert.
A few more shows are on the books, including Sunday, September 4, at Heritage Park.
Executive Director of the Central Ontario Music Council, Greg Groen says "Play the Parks" intends to bring music to public spaces where people don't always expect it.
"In parks, people don't always expect to see a show, so it gives opportunities for people to enjoy it and highlights the region's musical culture."
Artists speak fondly of the event. "It's so different," Groen explains. "Lots of musicians play in bars and have the same kind of crowd, so this gives them a chance to play in a different environment which affects their artistry and the way they perform."
The project started a few years ago in Toronto as a partnership between Canada's Music Incubator and TD Bank.
Following a successful run, they expanded to other cities, including Barrie.
Groen says they would love to do it again next year. "Like any new experience we learn as we grow, we would love to bring it back in the future."
The next shows include Sophie Gentle and Evangeline Gentle at 2 pm, Heritage Park on September 4.
The final show is on September 11 with Brett Caswell and the Northern Pipes Choir at 2 pm in Centennial Park.
