'Significant announcement' to come from police chief about the disappearance of a Barrie woman

Barrie Police Chief Rich Johnston will make a ‘significant announcement’ at a news conference Thursday about the disappearance of 26-year-old Autumn Shaganash.

The Barrie woman was reported missing to police on June 12, 2023.

Police have said that Autumn was last seen on Friday, June 9, 2023 leaving a family member’s home in the area of Burton Avenue and Frank’s Way. They said she had planned to spend the evening at a friend’s house, though her family did not have specifics about her location.

“A message was received the next day and the family tried to follow up, and after that, the phone ceased operation,” Barrie Police communications coordinator Peter Leon told Barrie 360 in an interview last June. “She virtually vanished into thin air.”

In that interview, Leon confirmed the issue of human trafficking had come up and that the family had hired a private investigator.

In a news release on Wednesday, police said that a family member of Autumn’s will also be speaking at the news conference.
