Provincial police are probing the death of a man after they responded to reports of gunshots and an injured person in the back parking lot of the Village Square Mall in Penetanguishene.

First responders were called to the scene around 5 p.m. on Thursday.

The victim was transported to hospital by paramedics where he was pronounced dead.

Police have identified him as 30-year-old Jesse Daniel Deschamps of Penetanguishene.

Investigators are seeking the public's help to identify a vehicle leaving the scene. It's described as a black Ford F150. They say the suspect(s) may still be armed, and if the person(s) or vehicle is seen, the public is asked not to approach and to contact 911.

Police believe this is an isolated incident.

The investigation is being conducted by the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment Major Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance of the OPP Forensic Identification Services and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
