A shelter-in-place order has been issued in Welland, Ont., where police say an officer has been shot and a suspect has been contained inside a building.
Niagara regional police say the officer has been sent to hospital as a precaution and their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
A spokesperson says the officer was responding this morning to reports of a shooting near Second Street and Plymouth Road.
Nearby schools and the Welland Hospital have been placed under a lockdown.
Niagara Health says the hospital is not admitting new patients to the building.
Police say all residents "in the affected area" are to lock their doors and windows and to remain inside until further notice.
