Police release name of pilot killed in March 15 plane crash on Lake Simcoe

65-year-old James Wares of Ramara Township killed in late afternoon crash near Lagoon City

Police have released the identity of the pilot killed in a plane crash on Lake Simcoe early last week.

Shortly before 4 p.m. on Monday, March 15, emergency crews responded to reports of a small aircraft crash on the ice of Lake Simcoe, over a kilometre off the shore of Lagoon City.

The lone male occupant of the plane was found deceased. The OPP have identified him as 65-year-old James Wares of Ramara Township.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada continues its investigation into the crash, while any witnesses are encouraged to contact the Orillia detachment of the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
