A man is accused of spitting in the face of a Barrie police officer as he was being placed into the back of a cruiser.

Around 12:25 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, police say an officer was conducting traffic enforcement on Essa Road near Beacon Road when a vehicle was clocked travelling 101 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The vehicle was stopped a short distance away and the motorist was arrested for stunt driving. Police allege as the man was being placed into the rear seat of the cruiser, he spat in the face of the officer.

The 29-year-old from Barrie was charged with stunt driving, speeding, and assaulting police.

His vehicle has been impounded for 14 days and his driver's licence has been suspended for 30 days.

The driver has a court date next month.
