Police watchdog clears Barrie officers of culpability following foot injury in June

Man fractured foot while jumping from balcony, SIU was told

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has cleared Barrie Police after a man suffered a serious injury during a June arrest.

Barrie Police officers were called to a Courtney Crescent home shortly before 4 p.m on June 29. Officers were met by paramedics who were in the process of treating the injury of a man who reportedly jumped from a balcony at the back of the home. He was found on the ground complaining of a pain in his foot.

He was placed under arrest and taken to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre where doctors determined he fractured a bone in his foot. Following an investigation by the SIU, it was determined that injury was not the result of police action.
