Despite taking time to work on solo projects, B-T-S promises they'll return as a group.
The South Korean K-pop group celebrated nine years since their debut release and shared a video with fans.
The word hiatus was used a few times during their conversations in english subtitles.
The group explains they will be focusing on solo projects for a while and hope the time apart improves their "synergy" as a group.
Band member R-M says he needs time to figure out where he wants to go and says, "The problem with K-pop and the whole idol system is that they don't give you time to mature."
Jung Kook said, "We're each going to take some time to have fun and experience a lot of things. We promise we will return someday even more mature than we are now."
B-T-S released a three-disc anthology, "Proof" last week, selling just over 2 million copies in one day.
Their entertainment company Hybe Co. quickly issued a statement saying, "BTS is not taking a hiatus. Members will be focusing more on solo projects at this time."
Reports say Hybe Co. shares fell 28 percent in Seoul following the news, its lowest close since October 2020.
