The Ontario government is investing $25 million to fund 987 additional spots at Georgian College, with most of the expansion going to health programs.
The province says this decision will connect more students to "good-paying, in-demand careers."
Students will be able to enrol in some of the additional spots as early as the fall 2026 academic year.
The funding breaks down as follows:
- 686 seats in health programs
- 178 seats in STEM programs
- 80 seats in trades programs
- 44 seats in education programs
- 17 seats in other labour-market-driven programs
Kevin Weaver, Georgian College's president and CEO, says the investment will help the college meet Ontario's workforce and innovation needs as the region's population grows and ages.
The funding is part of Ontario's $1.7-billion investment to create more than 70,000 additional postsecondary seats at publicly assisted colleges and universities. The province says the expansion is the largest in more than a decade.
