Provincial COVID-19 caseload increased by 165 on Friday morning, majority reported in GTA

Over half of provincial caseload addition made up of those from Toronto

Public Health Ontario is reporting 165 new cases of COVID-19 across the province, with over half of those originating in Toronto.

In its daily update on COVID numbers, public health officials say 87 of those cases announced today came via Toronto Public Health. Meanwhile, Windsor-Essex, which has been working to contain outbreaks among migrant farmworkers, only represents three of those cases.

The majority of health units across Ontario are confirming no new cases were added since yesterday’s update, including that of Simcoe Muskoka. Official confirmation of local numbers is expected early Friday afternoon.

Public Health reported 179 recoveries since Thursday’s update, along with just two lives lost in the last 24 hours.

The province continued to exceed its testing targets, with over 24,000 run in one day. There were nearly 16,000 in backlog.
